Abstract

The article is dedicated to the 100 anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Soviet and Russian scientist Guriy Ivanovich Marchuk. It examines his contributions to computational mathematics, atmospheric physics, and geophysics, as well as his role in organizing science and leading the USSR Academy of Sciences. Special attention is paid to his work in the Atomic Project, the creation of scientific schools, and international cooperation. The article also reflects his philosophical views on science and its role in society.
